Privacy, briefly

The short version: if you give me your email address, it is used to tell you about Laura and Maya books. The site also uses basic analytics so I can see whether anyone is actually reading the thing.

The email list

If you subscribe, the mailing list collects your email address, and only your email address. No name, age, location, birthday, favourite Brontë, or anything else.

You are only subscribed when you deliberately type your email address into the signup box and press the button. Nothing else you do on this site signs you up to anything.

Your mailing-list address is not connected to website analytics or used to build a profile of you.

What your email address is used for

Occasional emails about Laura Chambers and Maya Novak, primarily to tell you when a new book is coming.

That is the entire purpose of the list.

There is no weekly newsletter, no promotional drip sequence, and no “exclusive content” funnel.

What never happens to it

Your email address is never sold, rented, traded, or shared with anyone for marketing purposes.

It is stored in an access-restricted database and may only be processed by services needed to operate the website and deliver the emails you have asked to receive.

Consent records

When you subscribe, the site records the date, the page you signed up from, and the exact notice you were shown. This provides a record of what you agreed to.

If you unsubscribe, that date is recorded too.

Leaving the list

Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately, with no questions and no “are you sure?” gauntlet.

You can also email hello@lauraandmaya.com to be removed from the list or to have your address deleted entirely.

Website analytics

LauraAndMaya.com uses Google Analytics to understand how the website is being used.

This can include information such as which pages are visited, how visitors arrived at the site, general geographic information, what type of device or browser is being used, and whether links are clicked.

The purpose is fairly mundane: to find out which parts of the site people actually use, whether guides and first chapters are being found, and whether visitors are reaching the books.

Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies as part of providing this information.

Analytics data is not used to identify individual visitors, is not connected to the email subscriber list, and is not used by this site to build advertising or marketing profiles.

Where consent is required for analytics cookies or similar technologies, they will not be activated until that consent has been given.

Third-party services

The site relies on a small number of service providers to operate, host, measure and maintain it. Those services may process limited technical information where necessary to provide those functions.

Google Analytics is provided by Google and is subject to Google's own privacy and data-processing practices.

Any future email-delivery provider will only receive the information necessary to deliver emails to people who have subscribed.

Questions or deletion requests

If you have a question about information held by LauraAndMaya.com, want to unsubscribe, or want your subscriber information deleted entirely, email hello@lauraandmaya.com.

That’s it. There isn’t a secret second mailing list.
