Overview

Laura Chambers is a fictional character created by author Aaron D. Stott and the central protagonist of several novels and pulp adventures, including Miss Chambers and the Countess, Tell Me About the Lions, and the Laura Chambers vs. pulp science fiction series.

Laura is an archaeologist and manuscript scholar whose curiosity keeps pulling her into worlds that shouldn't exist — a Carpathian castle with an immortal countess, a Paleolithic landscape she was meant only to study, a mid-century America overrun by radioactive monsters. Across every book, a single thread holds: Laura and Maya Novak find each other again.

Biography

Laura is introduced as a quiet archaeology student in Laura Chambers Is the Apocalypse in a Sweater, where she meets Maya Novak in the university library over shared tables and increasingly non-academic conversations about Ice Age lions. In later novels she appears as a Victorian scholar cataloguing ancient manuscripts in the Carpathians, an archaeologist trapped inside the Ice Age she once only studied, and a mid-century doctor confronting impossible science.

Her academic training — patience, cataloguing, close reading of things older than she is — is what she brings into every version of her world. It is rarely enough on its own.

Personality

Reserved by default. Curious past the point of caution. Quietly disruptive in a way she herself does not always notice. Laura's instinct is to observe, catalogue, and understand — and to keep observing long after most people would have run.

Relationships

Maya Novak — In every world, in every timeline, Laura finds Maya. A disruptive urban planning student. A Countess who has watched centuries pass. A woman from a mid-century laboratory. The specifics change; the recognition does not.
